Here is a video of me doing a Talk Aloud to Maryanne Dobek’s Little Cat, Big Cat for my 3rd graders.

Please note that in a Talk Aloud you are to read from a script and incorporate:

  • Connecting to past learning
  • Activate listening
  • Reading text interrupted
  • Identify attributes you are featuring
  • Make reader-writer connection
  • Student application

I find it difficult to not really engage with students during a talk aloud, but the point is to be concise with attributes authors use to help students in their reading and writing.  This should be a short little mini lesson.
